Helix Rack

A 3U rack version of the Helix processor, driven either from its own front panel or from Helix Control — a twelve-switch footboard that connects over a single Cat5 cable and is sold separately. Same engine as the Floor, with studio I/O the Floor does not have.

If your unit is a floorboard with a built-in expression pedal, read the Helix Floor guide — the sound engine is the same but the controls and jacks are not. Helix Control on its own is a controller, not a processor: it makes no sound without a Rack.

Everything in this guide

Controls and footswitches

The rack's front panel and Helix Control's twelve switches, on interactive diagrams — including what you do and don't get in the box.

Inputs and outputs

Every jack on an interactive rear panel, including the wordclock, the digital inputs and the buffered guitar thru the Floor doesn't have.

Specifications

The numbers that answer a question, and a straight comparison with the Helix Floor.

What every model really is

All 440 amps, cabs and effects decoded from Line 6's own list. “Brit 2203” is a JCM-800.

Levels

Two settings decide whether it sounds like the demo or sounds broken. Both live in a menu, and neither is a tone control.

Cabs and IRs

What an impulse response is, how to load one, and why a downloaded preset can load fine and still play the wrong cabinet.

Blocks, paths and DSP

Why it stops you adding a block when the meter looks half empty — the hard caps, and what actually buys back space.

Rig setup

Studio, live, clocked, or split to a real amp — the cabling and the cab block state for each.

Snapshots and modes

Preset, snapshot or stomp — which layer a change belongs on, and why the wrong one leaves a gap.

MIDI

What a controller can actually reach, the three messages that recall a sound, and the trick that lets one preset serve several songs.

Questions and answers

Straight answers to the things people actually ask, in a sentence or two each.

Troubleshooting

Symptom, cause, fix — including the entries that turn out to be documented behaviour rather than faults.

Firmware and backups

What an update changes, what it leaves alone, and the one-minute backup that means it never costs you anything.

Glossary

Block, path, snapshot, L6 LINK, wordclock, Legacy — plain definitions, with why each matters here.
