Troubleshooting

Indexed by what you notice, not by what the subsystem is called — because when something is wrong you know there's no sound, not that it's a routing problem.

11 of the 15 problems below are not faults. They are documented behaviour that looks like a fault, and they are marked working as designed. “Your unit is fine” is a useful answer and nobody publishes it.

My stereo effects collapsed to mono

There is a Clone block before them

Working as designed

Every Clone block is mono, and anything stereo before one gets summed. Move your stereo effects after the clone.

I can't find the cloning feature

Firmware older than 1.3

PROXY cloning arrived in Helix Stadium firmware 1.3. Update, and check the Main Menu icon — a red dot there means an update is waiting.

Song View is empty, or tracks won't play

Nothing on the microSD card

Song tracks, loops and preset clips all live on the card, which sits under the security panel on the rear. It ships fitted — if it has been removed, Showcase has nowhere to read from.

The screen keeps changing to a block I didn't select

A foot is resting on a capacitive footswitch

Working as designed

Touching a switch selects its block without changing the sound. Nothing is wrong.

It's distorting and I can't find where

An input or output block is clipping

Input and output blocks turn bright red when they clip, and FX Loop blocks turn red when the Return clips. Find the red one — that colour is the whole metering system.

The input needs the pad

The Instrument input has a switchable pad and its own impedance setting, before any block. Use them rather than spending a block on a gain stage.

It won't let me add a block

You have hit a hard cap

Working as designed

Four amps or preamps per preset, two per path. Four clones, two per path. Eight cabs, four per path. Two poly effects per path. None of these are DSP limits.

Helix Stadium Owner's Manual 1.3.2

Clones and Agoura amps are expensive

A Clone costs about as much as a full Agoura amp model. Two of either on one path plus effects will exhaust that path — but the other path is still empty.

My snapshot edits vanish when I switch snapshots and come back

Snapshot Edits is set to Discard

Working as designed

Global Settings > Preferences > Snapshot Edits decides this. Recall (the default) keeps your changes as you left them. Discard returns the snapshot to its last-saved state — which is the behaviour you want live, and the behaviour that eats your work while you are building. Hold BYPASS and press SAVE to flip it at any time; the camera icon on the Home screen is grey for Recall and red for Discard.

A snapshot I just selected sounds identical to the last one

Nothing has been changed in it yet

Working as designed

That is exactly what an unedited snapshot does — it carries the state you arrived with. It only becomes its own thing the moment you change something in it. Nothing is broken; you have simply not written it yet.

Loading a preset jumps to a snapshot I didn't choose

It recalls whichever snapshot was active when the preset was saved

Working as designed

Saving a preset stores all of its snapshots and remembers which one you were on. If a song should always start on the intro sound, select that snapshot and then save — the choice is made at save time, not at load time.

The snapshot footswitches disappear as soon as I pick one

Snapshot Mode Switches is set to Auto Return

Working as designed

Set Global Settings > Footswitches > Snapshot Mode Switches to Manual Return and it stays in snapshot mode until you press CANCEL. Auto Return is right when snapshots are an occasional visit; Manual Return is right when they are how you play the set.

My delay or reverb cuts off the instant I bypass it

Not the same problem as tails cutting off at a preset change, and it has a different answer — this one is a setting inside the block.

That block's Trails setting is Off

Working as designed

Trails Off mutes repeats and decays the moment the block is bypassed. Trails On lets them ring out naturally, through a bypass and through a snapshot change. It is set per block, so one delay left wrong is enough to make a whole rig feel abrupt.

Is it safe to plug the XLR outs into a desk with phantom power on?

This one is worth reading before it is a problem rather than after.

No — Line 6 flag this in capitals, twice

Never connect these XLR outputs to a device whose XLR inputs have 48V phantom power enabled. On a desk, that means switching phantom off for those channels before you plug in, not after.
