Factory capture decoder

Neural DSP never uses real manufacturer names, and owners say openly that the factory names are unusable unless you already know the amp. Nobody had published a decoder — so here's ours, with a confidence level on every line.

Watch out

Neural DSP never uses real manufacturer or model names, so none of this is official. These are our readings, built from the abbreviations, model numbers and channel names they do use, plus the community's interpretations where those exist. The high-confidence ones are barely disguised — 2555 really is the Silver Jubilee's model number. The low-confidence ones are genuinely guesses and are labelled as such. If you own the amp and recognise one we've got wrong, it should be corrected.

Each cabinet is available across five microphones and six positions, giving 300 factory IRs in total. Microphone and position selection only applies to factory IRs — your own uploads get level, phase invert, high-pass and low-pass.

Working with captures

Five things worth knowing

  • Start with the 25 factory captures, not the cloud. They're curated, consistent in level, and shipped with parameters at noon. Reviewers found user captures vary wildly in quality with inconsistent naming and minimal descriptions — the cloud is, in the community's words, a bit of a jungle.

  • Prefer amp-only captures over amp-and-cab where you have the choice. Neural DSP's own position is that they're easier to tame and give you more variation from the cab and IR settings — and an amp-and-cab capture has the cabinet permanently baked in.

  • Captures whose names include “+290” appear to already contain a power-amp stage. Worth knowing before you feed one into another power amp.

  • Factory V2 captures were often recorded with a boost in front, so their displayed gain values won't match what you hear. Per-capture settings are published on Cortex Cloud.

    NanOS 2.2.0 release notes
  • Cortex Cloud “cab captures” are not IRs and will not load into the IR slot — they occupy the capture slot. This confuses people constantly.
